Do you love history and people? Do you want to spend time doing interesting work while helping others? Are you interested in leading tours of the Georgia Capitol or helping family researchers at the Georgia Archives? We are looking for dependable and motivated individuals who can dedicate their time regularly. Volunteer opportunities include:

Family History Volunteer at the Georgia Archives located in Morrow, Georgia

Many of our visitors are interested in family history but have little idea where to start or how to use the Archives’ resources. Family History Volunteers assist patrons in the Archives Reference Room by helping them locate resources in the Archives library collection or in our databases, assisting them with the use of microfilm readers and printers, and giving general guidance about genealogical research.

Family History Volunteers assist patrons with genealogical questions only and refer other questions to Archives staff. Please note that volunteers who are genealogists-for-hire may not—under any circumstance—solicit business while on the Archives’ premises.

Tour Guide and Information Volunteer at the Georgia Capitol located in Atlanta, Georgia

Volunteers are needed to provide tours to visitors of the Georgia Capitol. Completed in 1889, the Georgia Capitol remains one of the most beautiful buildings in the entire state. Volunteers help Georgia residents, students, and visitors from all over the world discover this wonderful building and learn more about our state. Tour scripts will be provided and a training period will follow your acceptance into a position. Parking and transportation are the responsibility of the volunteer.

How does it work?

If you would like to apply, simply complete the Expression of Interest Form. Forms are reviewed by staff and applicants will be contacted. Selected candidates will be invited to attend a training session where they learn about the Division of Archives and History and specific opportunities. All positions are subject to availability. Volunteer hours are determined by needs of the position. Please fill in your available times on the Expression of Interest Form.
