Here are some frequently asked questions about Virtual Georgia:
What happens to my image next?
Within the next two weeks the image will be reviewed by staff of the archives to
see whether it meets our collecting policy for Virtual Georgia images. If it does,
the image will be added to our online collection.
When will I see my image?
Images that are accepted will appear in Virtual Georgia in 10 to 14 days. Please check
the Virtual Georgia website for updates. To find your image, do a keyword search
on a word or words from the description you submitted.
Why doesn’t my name appear with my image?
To protect your privacy, the name of the donor is not displayed to
the public.
Why doesn’t the description I wrote exactly match the one that appears
with my image?
The archives reserves the right to make minor changes to spelling,
punctuation, and length in the descriptions submitted with each image. Normally,
these are made only increase clarity. If the description appearing with your image
is entirely different from the one you submitted, please contact the archives at
describe@sos.state.ga.us.
What do I do if I want to donate the original photographs?

Why might my image not be accepted?
If we don’t add an image to Virtual Georgia it does not mean it’s a
bad image! When the Georgia Archives accepts a digital image it is committing resources—money
and staff time—to preserve the image and make it available. Since those resources
are limited, the archives cannot collect everything. To be as fair as possible,
the archives has developed strict guidelines about what it will and will not collect.
The most common reasons an image is not added to Virtual Georgia are:
- The photo appears to be owned by a professional studio and could not be added for legal reasons.
- The subject matter of the photo falls outside the guidelines of Virtual Georgia
and/or the collecting policy of the Georgia Archives.
Can I appeal the archive’s
decision to not include an image in Virtual Georgia?
Due to resource constraints, the Archives will review each image only once. Return to the Contribution Form (Please
