Historical Organizations and Resources Directory: Information for Repositories
Your entry in the Directory of Historical Organizations contains information that can change periodically:
- hours of operation,
- public phone numbers,
- website addresses.
In the past you have had to send these changes to the Georgia Archives and we have edited your Directory entry. Now you can edit your own Directory entry whenever you wish. It’s simple:
- Visit www.GeorgiaArchives.org;
- Click on the logo for the Directory of Historical Organizations located on the left side of the page;
- Use the search tool to find your organization;
- Click on the “Update” link. This will open a window that asks you for a User ID and Password. Your organization has been assigned the following:
- User ID: (user id)
- Password: (password)
When you edit your information you will find a section requesting information that we can use to contact you during a disaster. When Hurricanes Katrina and Rita struck the Gulf Coast in 2005, one of the first problems facing state archives was identifying and contacting repositories that might have been affected by the storms. The information you provide in this “Disaster Prep Information” section will help us contact you if such an event occurs in Georgia.
You are not required to provide this information, but we urge you to help us prepare in this way. Remember, as you complete this section, that major disasters, such as hurricanes, can scatter people over large geographic areas. It is best to provide ‘portable’ contact information, such as cell phone numbers or personal email addresses, that will help us locate you wherever you might be. This information is not shared with the public.
